Thunderbolt 3 Dock For MacBook

Over the years you would have witnessed one commonality as newer devices get released on the market. They seem to get thinner and thinner with every edition. Long gone are the thick book-like laptops as we witness the rise of light and sleek laptops. Gone are the multiple distinct ports that used to grace both the edges of the device, replaced with much fewer ports, namely Thunderbolt and USB C ports.

Since laptops now have the bare minimum number of ports, trying to connect multiple devices can become troublesome. The solution for this dilemma is simple, you will need a common area that can connect the multiple devices you need to your laptop and that is where the Thunderbolt 3 dock comes into play.

Through the Thunderbolt 3 Dock, you can connect all your accessories through a common device to your computer. You will never have to choose between a slim and minimalistic laptop and the efficiency provided by multiple accessories again.

This is four times faster than a USB C connection and eight times more than a USB 3.0 Type A connection. The rapid speed ensures that you get tasks done quickly without the worry of your device hanging or lagging.

3. Compatibility

Even though the Thunderbolt 3 is known for its compatibility with Apple devices such as the MacBook Pro, you can use the Thunderbolt 3 dock with a variety of devices, since most laptops on the market these days come with compatibility to Thunderbolt 3.

What to look for while buying Thunderbolt 3 Dock For MacBook

To make it easier, listed below are a few aspects you need to look out for and pay close attention to while deciding which Thunderbolt 3 dock is the right fit for your MacBook Pro.

1. Number of ports

If you have a lot of accessory devices that you are looking to connect to your MacBook Pro, choosing a Thunderbolt 3 dock, with a high number of ports may be an ideal fit. However, keep in mind that the higher the number of ports the larger the size of the dock.

So if you constantly work while on the move or are looking for a port to accompany you on your various travels, a large-sized Thunderbolt 3 dock might have contrasting results and end up being a nuisance.

2. Power

The Thunderbolt 3 dock you pick, needs to supply power to all the devices that you attach to it. So you need to ensure that your choice is capable of supplying the same. Ideally, a Thunderbolt 3 dock should use a huge power ranging between 60 W to 65 W.

3. Type of Ports

All devices you use have unique ports. Since a Thunderbolt 3 dock is meant to be compatible with a variety of devices and functions, the Thunderbolt 3 dock you select needs to be compatible with the connectors of your devices. Additionally, having two or more Thunderbolt 3 ports themselves would be beneficial to support compatible devices.

4. Other Features

There are other features that few Thunderbolt 3 docks possess that allow them to trump other competitors in the market. The features can be specifications of the dock itself, such as its dimensions, the length of the cable, and the devices it can support. Others can be ergonomic features that increase the efficiency of the dock.
